scaling screen captures for posters

A colleague recently posted this tip in his personal blog and has graciously allowed me to share it here. For all who have been tasked with the seemingly impossible job of making a screen capture look crisp (or even remotely decent) on a large-format document, here's the solution ...

"If you use screen captures the one trick to remember is that if you scale the image, don't resample. That means you shouldn't throw out, or allow the computer to create, pixels. Scale it by changing ppi in Photoshop, not in your layout program. Don't save as JPG, save as PNG or TIFF. I end up with captures at very odd resolutions- like 173.6 ppi and 64.3 ppi in the same document. And they're all razor sharp."
