Promoting and Demoting Text Using the Outline Tab in PowerPoint

The Outline tab is found along the left side of the PowerPoint interface, usually hidden by the slides tab, and for many of us that is where it remains. The Outline tab can be a useful tool for adding and editing title and content text on slides. It can also be used to promote and demote text without having to cut, copy, or paste it from on level to another or from one slide to another. The commands to promote and demote text, or decrease and increase list level, are located on the Home tab in the Paragraph group. To use them, click in front of the text in the Outline tab that you would like to move and select the appropriate command button to promote or demote the indent level of the text. These commands can also be used within text boxes on the slide.
