Excel 2007 includes a feature that allows for conditional formatting to be represented by icon sets, or small collections of graphics used to characterize data. The icons are always left aligned in a column, so if multiple columns are using this type of formatting it may be difficult to distinguish which icon belongs to which value, in other words the icon appears closer to the value in the column to the left of it than it might to the value in the column it is representing. While the left alignment of the icon can’t be changed, there is a way to work around this alignment. The number values in the corresponding columns could be centered, but many find this less than ideal. The video found at http://www.5min.com/Video/MrExcels-Learn-Excel-923---Icon-Set-Alignment-...
suggests using the dialog box launcher with the Alignment group on Home tab of the Ribbon to open the Format Cells dialog box. On the Alignment tab, change the Horizontal to Right (Indent) and adjust the indent number. This will move the number in the cell closer to the icon with centering it.
