The line spacing defaults in Word 2007 are different than what they were in Word 2003. I had previously posted a tip about controlling the extra space that Word 2007 inserts each time a new paragraph is started in a document. However, changing the default spacing for all new documents is a bit more involved. While it may appear that you can use the Default button in the Paragraph dialog box after checking the box that says, "Don't add space between paragraphs of the same style", this action will not actually affect the spacing for new documents. To change to the spacing that was used in Word 2003 (1.0 line spacing and no space between paragraphs), use the Styles group on the Home tab. Click Change Styles and select Style Set. From the list, select Word 2003. To make this the default spacing for all new documents, click Change Styles again and this time select Set as Default.
