I received a phone call recently from a past workshop participant asking about multiple headers and footers in one Word 2007 document. While this is possible, it also does require some extra formatting and use of the Header/Footer Tools. Inserting section breaks into a document allows for multiple headers/footers within one document. Section breaks can be inserted from the Page Layout tab. Each header or footer label will display a sequential number to indicate the section where it is found within the document. When a header or footer is selected the Header/Footer Tools contextual tab called Design appears in the Ribbon. In the Navigation group of the tab, there is a command called “Link to Previous”. This is turned on and glowing by default. To remove, the link, click on the command to toggle it off. This will allow the header or footer to be changed in one particular section of the document without changing the rest of the previous headers or footers. This feature is also available in Word 2003 using the Header and Footer toolbar.
If anyone has additional comments or suggestions on how to use multiple headers/footers, please feel free to post here.
